An Inspiring Blue Sweater Book Club Discussion in a Nairobi Slum

Dear Community Members,

I'm excited to let you know that The Blue Sweater is coming out in paperback on February 16th.  It has been a wonderful year and I have so many people to thank the world over for reaching out to people and helping to spread the ideas of patient capital and dignity.  Thank you, truly. We're hoping that we can reach an even wider audience, including young people, students and communities around the world with the lower-priced paperback.

One of the year's events that most inspired me happened just a few days ago.  Seven young men from Nairobi's slums led the creation of seven book clubs.  Together, they organized a "Super Book Club meeting" for more than 90 readers who joined me in the Kibera slum in a community center made of sheets of corrugated metal.  Individuals came from different slums, and some traveled more than an hour prepared with their book and some of the toughest questions I've been asked. I can't think of an evening that has touched me more in a long, long time. You can see photos from the event here.

Now we're really on a mission to extend the conversation about interconnectedness, patient capital and dignity, and we'd love your help.  You can:

-- Check out our Book Club in a Box and get involved; and when you do have a meeting, add your photos and videos here .  Our goal is to sell 100 of these $50 kits before the end of the week, and we'd love your help to get there!

-- Share your thoughts with me about the book here - I take them seriously!

-- Invite fellow readers to join our community.

We can end poverty if we begin by extending ourselves, reaching new communities and imagining a future where all of us are included in the global economy. Thanks always for your support and your commitment.

Warmly,

Jacqueline

Hi Lisa, yes I do have a website/evite for the event- it should be out Saturday, as I am still waiting on some final details before putting it up. As for academics, that is a great idea you have. I'm aiming for Adlai Wertman at USC, but have yet to…

Hey Thanh Do you have a website/e-invite or email about the event? Would love to email info out to people who might be interested. You might want to consider UCLA/USC as well or YNPNLA (Young Non Profit Network - LA)
