I came across this set of slides with some interesting definitions and approaches. You can almost feel the slightly conservative angle to the European schools of thought. However, the ideas still seem powerful, and more importantly, inclusive. EMES…

We're Acumen Fund's newest chapter and are hoping to launch a series of events around Acumen's mission of promoting patient capital. We'd love to connect like-minded people and be a hub for ideas in social entrepreneurship.

Intent drives incentive drives intent drives incentive drives incent... beautiful :)

Hello,
Its only February, but, its February already! I am trying with in a rather frantic manner to write here more:) I've been reading on and working in many more areas at the intersection of incentive driven community development, and technology. What drives me here is quite simple:
1) The world needs more people to do 'good deeds'. I define a good deed as one where both, or all, parties involved benefit from the deed. A bad deed on the other hand, is one where one party always loses s… Continue

Evolution of altruism; from pure intent, to daily life tie-in, to...incentives?

First: happy new year to all! For my first post in the new year, I wanted to start with an interesting trend I noticed in how people are helping other people. Non profits and Second Life

Hello. Hope everyone's had a good start to the holidays. I've attended enough Christmas parties for the next couple of years :) A Jordanian holiday party + an Indian holiday party = enough food for a small country.

I've been looking around for non profit activity on the internet. Beyond homepages, facebook pages, and donation drives, I found little evidence in developmental organizations and non-profits utilizing social networks , or even online advertising, for continued support (not one-off i… Continue

Online infrastructure for systematizing non-profit social development

I am writing this as the cold wave and lashing rain continue to beat up San Francisco :) Colder than any of my last 3 years in the city.

I worked with Engineers without Borders for about 2.5 years - their San Francisco Professionals Chapter. It was the first professionals chapter in the country for that org., and a lot of good work was and is being done there. During that time, I came across numerous articles that referred to some non-profit organizations as "..poorly run small businesses..". I… Continue
